Artist Statement

My practice focuses on sculpture, painting, drawing and multimedia. I primarily employ realism and media collage styles depicting material subjects that explore themes of self reflection, family, ritual, modernity and materiality. My process is driven by reflection, experimentation and eclecticism.

My work investigates the quality of material objects to reflect human sentiment and create narratives. Exploring sculpture amplified my fascination in dissecting the layered meanings within the objects and materials of my environment, considering the stories in their origins and the mental associations and barriers we bestow to them to draw narratives and connections from. This informs my fine art work, where I engage these themes with emphasis on arrangement, design and atmosphere, coupled with the intensive care of hyper-realistic rendering. I primarily operate with readily available objects in my sculptural work, which focuses more on object ephemerality, organizational systems and assemblage. I strive for my work to incite personal reflection, identify daily systems of power, extract vitality from the mundane, reveal hidden biases, and encourage playfulness. I see my practice further exploring object-based narratives, synthesizing disparate visual queues, and continually experimenting with mediums and aesthetics. Recently declaring emphasis in sculpture and post-studio practices for my BFA, I am further developing a body of three dimensional and conceptual work alongside my drawing and painting background.
